Drivers who hold a PCV or LGV licence
Drivers with a full PCV licence before 10/09/08 or LGV licence before 10/09/09 have what is known as 'acquired rights' to an Initial Driver CPC.
The Periodic Driver CPC will be evidenced by issuing drivers with a Driver Qualification Card (DQC), similar to the driving licence.
The DQC will be issued by DVLA. It will be mandatory for drivers to carry evidence that they hold Driver CPC when they are driving professionally.
Drivers with acquired rights will not be issued with a DQC until they have completed their first 35 hours of periodic training. They will be able to show they have acquired rights by the date on their driving licence showing when they acquired their vocational driving licence.
Drivers will be required to undertake a minimum of 35 hours approved training in every five year period. The training has to be of not less than seven hours duration per course for DCPC renewal.
This Periodic Training will involve the regulation of training providers and training courses for syllabus and standards.
