The level of interest continues to grow as we move ever closer to the implementation date of September 2009.

This was more than evident in the reaction and enthusiasm of delegates attending recent briefings hosted by VTL.

For many in the logistics industry (both PCV & LGV), September 2009 may seem a long way off but the training sector is very clear about the task in hand and what needs to be done in preparation for this major change in legislation.

The importance of Training Providers in helping to create an effective infrastructure to meet the demand for training for the Driver CPC [DCPC] is becoming clearer too. This is particularly true in respect of training course development, an area in which VTL is making a significant investment. Many delegates agreed that delivering training is one thing but, developing training courses requires a completely different set of abilities that not all organisations have access to. VTL, on the other hand, has expertise in this area.

There will be a need to increase the number of qualified instructors to deliver DCPC periodic training, that is evident; there are estimates that a further 1,000 trainers, in addition to those currently engaged in licence acquisition maybe needed. Training to become a qualified instructor will be in many cases the first step, ask about the requirements.

Training Options for Driver CPC [DCPC]
There are a number of Driver CPC training options open to operators and drivers.

Option One
VTL can assist and advise you on the merits undertaking Driver CPC training, 'in-house'. Our Driver CPC course starts on 10th Sept 2008.

Option Two
VTL have experience of Employer / Trainer partnerships. This approach gives the employer the capacity to use your own staff to deliver the essential basic skills and our expertise to deliver the behaviour changing courses. By leaving VTL to undertake the administration and design of the programme you will be able to maintain your existing training/ staffing levels.
VTL's complete package gives you the facility to check drivers’ licence entitlement and driving standards.

Option Three
By contracting VTL to manage all your Driver CPC training, courses can be designed to meet your business needs and deliver the training at a time and place to suit you. This option gives you the advantage of a fixed competitive price.

Option Four
VTL will be offering operators the facility to buy in training sessions that can be tailored to individual needs and will offer value for money.

Option Five
VTL will be have additional training establishments in selected areas and will be working closing with our associated companies throughout the UK to provide value for money courses for drivers.
